On Friday, Teni commenced her worldwide tour. Ahead of her Birmingham performance, Teni sat down with DJ Abass on his show, For The Record, where they discussed everything from songwriting in Nigeria to a collaboration between the breakout star and the King of Fuji music, K1.
During the interview, Teni lamented the fact that Nigerian musicians don’t embrace songwriters. As she considers her songwriting and her melodies to be her strongest virtues as an artist, Teni sees this as a particular problem, but she is hopeful that the industry will become more accepting.
So impassioned about the skill of songwriting, Teni professed her musical infatuation with King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, praising the imaginative hidden meanings in his thought-provoking lyrics, and citing him as the foremost musician with whom she would love to collaborate.
Teni then confessed that she has actually spoken with K1 about this collaboration, telling us that they are simply waiting for the right time to get into the studio. Although she was hesitant to reveal much, it seems safe to say that a Teni and Kwam1 collaboration is on its way.
