While Nollywood is predominantly known for romantic comedies, its filmmakers generally seek to mirror the realities in our society. This is implemented, in a way less familiar to us, in the upcoming drama, Comatose, which tackles the issue of euthanasia.
Euthanasia, also known as mercy killing, is a very sensitive topic, as it’s frowned upon based on scriptural teachings, making most Nigerians automatically averse to it. That’s why it’s very interesting to see it being tackled through a cinematic lens.
Starring Bimbo Akintola (93 Days), Fabian Lojede (October 1) and Hakeem Kazim (Dynasty), Comatose follows two siblings as they battle over the life of their comatose mother. One wants to pull the plug, while the other wants to keep her alive.
Amidst this battle of wills, dark family secrets come to light, relationships are shattered, and their lives are turned upside down. In addition to the gripping storyline, the film also has some afro-futuristic elements to it, making it even more intriguing.
