- As INEC issues certificate of return to PDP candidate
Governor Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State has
congratulated the newly elected governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on his victory in the governorship election in the state.
In a state broadcast on Friday, Gov. Bindow said he took the step as a
lover of democratic norms and values.
He stated that his actions as Governor in the last four years were
with the best intention for the people.
Gov. Bindow of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost his bid for a
second term in office to Umaru Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP).
The PDP also won majority in the state House of Assembly.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had in the early
hours of Friday declared Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri winner of the Adamawa
governorship election.
The returning officer, Professor Haruna Andrew, in the early hours of
Friday said Fintiri polled 376,552 votes to defeat incumbent Governor
Mohammadu Jubrila Bindo of the All Progressives Congress who scored
336,386 votes after the supplementary election on Thursday.
Fintiri also received his certificate of return from the Independent
National Electoral Commission on Friday.
Speaking at the presentation of the certificate of return, INEC
commissioner supervising Borno, Adamawa and Taraba States called on the governor-elect to deliver to the people, the dividends of
democracy.
Umaru Fintiri who was Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly in 2014 acted as governor of the state that year after the
impeachment of the then Gov. Murtala Nyako.
The 25 members-elect of the Adamawa State House of Assembly were also presented with certificate of return by INEC.
