The Nigerian Football Federation has paid tribute to former international defender Taiwo Ogunjobi reports Completesports.com.

Ogunjobi died on Monday in Ibadan, Oyo State after a brief illness.

Ogunjobi served as secretary-general of then Nigeria Football Association between 2002 and 2005, and was member of the NFF Executive Committee between 2006 and 2010.

“We are sad to announce the shock demise of former Nigeria Int’l, Ex-NFF Gen. Sec., former NFF Executive Committee member, and current chairman, Osun State FA, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi after a brief illness,”the NFF tweeted after the sad news broke.

“Our prayers are with his family, relatives and the football family in Nigeria.”

Ogunjobi was twice an NFF presidential candidate and lost on both occasions to the incumbent Amaju Pinnick.

Ogunjobi was the captain of the Shooting Stars team that reached the final of the then Africa Cup of Champions Clubs (the precursor to the African Champions league) in 1984.

Sunshine Stars FC also took to their official to pay tribute the late Ogunjobi.

“We are in rude shock and distraughted? with the sudden death of former @thenff Secretary General and State of Osun FA boss, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi. Our thoughts are with his family and the entire footballing family in Nigeria. #RIPSKIPPO!

The Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung also described the news of the death of former NFF scribe Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi as shocking.

Dalung in a statement signed by his media assistant Nneka Anibeze, he described the former Osun sate Football Association Chairman as a humble technocrat who dedicated his life to the administration of football in Nigeria.

“I’m shocked to hear of Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi’s death. I saw him last year prior to the NFF elections. He came to personally inform me of his intent to contest the NFF presidential elections.

“He was a seasoned administrator and had contributed immensely to the development of football in Nigeria especially in his home state Osun.

“I commiserate with his immediate family members, the Osun State football Association and other football stakeholders who knew or worked with him.

“He has left an indelible mark and a vacuum in football administration in the country. May God grant his soul eternal rest and his family, the fortitude to bear this loss.”
