It was truly a horrific experience as Shivajeet Kumar, an Indian expatriate hanged himself right on Dangote’s Refinery site

Naija news Understands that Mr Kumar who was a 28-year-old mechanical engineer with an Indian construction firm on Sunday, April 26, allegedly hanged himself following the confirmation of his COVID-19 positive status.

According to report a by Premium times newspaper, many of the foreign expatriIndianate and constructions worker got infected with COVID-19  just like Mr. Kumar who committed suicide on Dangote’s refinery site.

Naija News learnt that another Indian a health, safety, and environmental (HSE) manager, Satyendra Sharma, who was the index case of the virus on Dangote’s Refinery site also died as a result of COVID-19  complication.  One of Mr. Sharma’s colleagues revealed how they continued to work on the site during lockdown break and how his friend died as a result of the COVID-19 virus.

He said  Mr Sharma’s struggled for his life at the hospital for more than five days at Jajo Hospital located in Saphire Estate in Lekki. He revealed that Jajo hospital’s headquarters refused its doctor’s plea to allow Mr Sharma to be transferred to the headquarters for further review.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government have allegedly deliberately ignored the violation of its lockdown order by the Dangote Group in Lagos at the site of what Dangote plans to be Africa’s biggest oil refinery.

While governments at both the state and federal levels have largely warded off questions on the matter, the Nigerian police have denied knowledge of the ongoing massive construction works on the site, during and even after the lockdown

The denial by the police is maintained in spite of a violent protest on April 27 by the youth of the site’s host communities such as Eleko, Tiye, Idasho, Akodo, Lekki, among others.
