Key members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have been arrested in Taraba State ahead of today’s governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.

Impeccable sources in Taraba told a DailyTrust correspondent that some of them were arrested on “trumped up charges.”

Specifically, our correspondent gathered that a member of House of Representatives, Hon. Danladi Boido and Chairman of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Idi Danfulani were arrested by the DSS.

The state governor, Darius Ishaku confirmed the arrest in a statement yesterday by his Senior Special Adviser on Media, Bala Dan Abu and demanded for their immediate release.

The governor described their arrest as a bad omen and attack on democracy.

“Governor Ishaku condemns these arrests as unjust and against the tenets of democracy.

“He demands the immediate release of the two men and calls on the security agencies to stop further arrest of PDP members,” he said.

Ishaku had earlier raised the alarm that the federal government was planning to arrest key members of the PDP before, during and after the elections.
