Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to address Nigerians over the recently confirmed case of Coronavirus.

Naija News reports that the Federal Ministry of Health had on Friday confirmed the first case of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city.

The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, confirmed the case in a statement issued in the early hours of Friday, February 28, 2020, saying that the case involves an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and just returned from Milan, Italy on the 25th of February 2020.

This online news platform understands that the statement said the Italian was confirmed to be positive by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

While many had expected an address from Buhari, he, in a press statement signed by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Sunday, asked Nigerians not to panic.

The statement further urged Nigerians to observe safety and precautionary measures instead of getting panicked and raising undue alarm as the government had everything under control.

“He urges Nigerians not to panic about the news of this first case of Covid-19 in our country, as undue alarm would do us more harm than good.”

Reacting in a post on his Twitter page on Monday, Femi Fani-Kayode said Buhari would have addressed Nigerians if cows were affected by the Coronavirus.

He wrote: “If cows had been the ones affected by #coronavirus &were dying all over the world Buhari would have done a national broadcast by now & told us that what we are facing is the greatest tragedy in world history.

“Which type of leader puts the lives of cows before that of human beings?”
