Police officers in Oyo State Police have arrested one person identified as Dotun Somefun, in connection with the killing of a stalwart of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

It was gathered that the arrest is as a result of the crisis rocking local government administration in the state over who are the authentic occupants of local government Secretariats in the state.

However things took another dimension when one person identified as Abdulasisi Isa was shot dead during a clash in Surulere Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

The deceased was killed when supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) and those of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), clashed over who is the authentic Chairman of the Local Government Area.

According to a report by DailyPost, there has been pockets of violence between supporters of Chairmen who were sacked by Governor Seyi Makinde and the recently appointed Caretaker Chairmen in the state since last week Monday.

The sacked Chairmen are members of APC while those who were recently appointed are members of PDP.

The sacked Chairmen were elected in May 2018 during the administration of the immediate past Governor of the state, Mr. Abiola Ajimobi.

They were, however, sacked by Governor Seyi Makinde in May 2019.

Makinde later appointed caretaker committees in replacement of the sacked chairmen.

Both the sacked Chairmen and the Caretaker committees members have been at loggerheads since Monday when the sacked Chairmen made an attempt to resume their various offices.

The imbroglio rocking the local government administration however took another dimension when Mr. Isa was killed in Surulere local government area on Monday.

But, the Police in the state said it has arrested Somefun, who is currently helping the command in its investigation.

Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Mr. Olugbega Fadeyi who confirmed the killing, added that Isa sustained bullet injury and was confirmed dead at the Bowen University Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso on Monday.

Fadeyi in a statement made available to DAILY POST Wednesday night said that the DC CID is investigating the matter.

He said, Today, at about 1230 hours, two vehicles, one black Acura legend and black Volkswagen Golf vehicles were coming from Iwofin towards Ogbomoso and around Surulere Local Government, Iresadu, there was an attack and the occupants of the vehicles fired and one Isah Azeez ‘m’ about 50 years sustained bullet injury and was rushed to Bowen Teaching Hospital for treatment where he was later confirmed dead.

“The crowd outside also fired at the vehicles where one Dotun Somefun ‘m’ an occupant of the Acura was also injured, treated in an hospital in Ogbomoso by his group.

“He is currently in Police custody and assisting the police in their investigation, while DC CID is investigating the matter.”
