Dead Day-old Baby Dumped Inside Carton At Imo Junction

A day-old baby dumped in a dustbin in Owerri, the Imo State capital was found dead on Friday at a dump around Hardel junction.

Covered with blood signifying that he was a newborn, the baby was dumped inside a carton without any cloth on him.

A source told our correspondent that the baby was found dead b y street sweepers.

The development caused gridlock at the junction as motorists and passersby struggled to have a glimpse of the dead baby.

The source said, “The corpse was found at the dump this morning (Friday). This is very horrible. Why will a woman be this wicked? What offence did this innocent child commit? We called the police and they promptly arrived.”

Our correspondent saw policemen at the scene of the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, could not be reached for comments but a senior police officer told our correspondent that the police had commenced investigation.
