The Nigerian House of Representatives has responded to an allegation by South African Government that many Nigerians in their country are dealing in drugs.

KanyiDaily reported that the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Naledi Pandor had blamed drug dealers for xenophobic attacks on Nigerians, alleging that many Nigerians in South Africa dealt in in narcotics, human trafficking, and other vices.

However, during a press conference in Abuja on Friday, 6th September 2019, the Nigerian Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila dismissed the claim that Nigerians in the country were committing crimes.

He warned South Africa against “adding insult to our (Nigeria’s) grief” by alleging that Nigerians in the country were criminals.

Gbajabiamila also noted that the time for dialogue is over and its time to take action on the xenophobic attacks.

He described the attacks on Nigerians and their businesses as an “abomination against our people,” stating that, “We did not provoke nor did we deserve the treatment meted out to our people in South Africa.”
