Imo Housing Corporation Inaugurates Committee On Review Of Housing Estates And Layouts, Staff Audit, Others

Inaugurating the Five different Commitees on Friday 30th Aug 2019, the Chairman Imo Housing Corporation, Nze Ray Emeana urged the newly inaugurated Committee Members to help the new Board and Management of Imo Housing Corporation to live up to it’s mandate in regards to the law establishing the body which is the provision of affordable and effective Housing Care Service to the People of the State including workers and Civil Servants.

The Committees inaugurated were the Commttee on 1000 Housing Units for Civil Servants, Committee on Income and Expenditure of the Corporation from 2011 till date led by Dr Collins Nwachukwu, Committee on Imo State Housing Corporations Estate and Layout Review Committee led by Sir Chucks Okoro, and the Committee on the Review of Corporation Law led by Barr. Benneth Anukamara. Also inaugurated is the Committee on Staff Audit being chaired by Chief Ugwuibe.

Hon. Emeana, the Chairman of the Board informed the committees that the New Imo Housing Board inherited a largely non functional Housing corporation of about 32 Estates that is owing five months workers salary areas and together with a mind boggling Dept profile of about 50m naira in addition with over seventy litigations in different Courts leading to the garnishing of the Corporation’s bank accounts.

lamenting further on the poor State of the Corporation, he said that interim reports on the estates of the Corporation indicate that most estates lack proper documentation and adherence to the stipulated designs

He assured the commitment of the board and management to a corporation that will live up to the mandate of the law establishing it which is the provision of affordable Housing to Imo People.

He warned the former Board and Management who are still going about allocating lands and estates of the corporation to some people with fake documents to stop forthwith or get ready to face the consequences.

The Chairman further called on the 100 days ground breaking Cttee to quickly work out the final modalities of the 100 days ground breaking event by the Governor, identify and complete the process of documentation for the land, engage stakeholders to ensure Civil Servants and other stakeholders of Imo State who desire to own a home are the prime targets.

He regretted why a Housing Corporation with over 32 Estates could not pay its workers salaries for a period of 5 Months and urged the Income and Expenditure Review Cttee to investigate how the income of the Corporation was managed and why the Corporation could not live up to it’s promises.

He also urged the Staff and Audit Committee to identify the real Workers of the Corporation while calling on.the Committee on Estate and Layout Review to help the Corporation identify the actual Estates of the Corporation.

The Inauguration was attended by Staff and Management of the Corporation including the General Manager, Arch Chidi Okoli.
