Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Delta State allegedly kidnapped at the weekend has regained freedom.

The victim identified as Mr. Okoro, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), headed Galilee Police Station, Ute-Ogbeje Community in Ika North East L.G.A.

The Nation learnt that the victim was freed after a ransom of N3 million was paid.

The police officer was kidnapped between Onicha-Ugbo and Issele-Uku along the Benin-Onitsha expressway by gunmen, who shot sporadically before whisking him to unknown destination.

It was gathered that the victim was freed Sunday after the ransom was dropped at a location.

But Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke denied the incident.

He stated it was the DPO’s friend that was kidnapped.

Adeleke also said there was no payment of ransom, declaring the police will not encourage the payment of ransom.
