Deontay Wilder
WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will be looking to do some damage when he steps in the ring for a rematch with Luis Ortiz in the fall, and then intends to create more drama when he faces Tyson Fury in the first half of 2020.
Back in 2018, Wilder stopped Ortiz in the tenth round of a cracker in New York City, and then closed out the year with a controversial twelve round split draw over Fury in Los Angeles.
“We move onto Ortiz first and, after I whup Ortiz in a great fashion and a quicker fashion, I will come back and get old Tyson Fury, and knock him out in dynamic fashion,” Wilder exclusively told Sky Sports.
Wilder’s eyes are also on being the undisputed champion of the weight class.
He aims to eventually face the winner of the likely rematch between IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO champion Andy Ruiz and challenger Anthony Joshua.
Ruiz dropped Joshua four times before the contest was waved off in the seventh round.
Both Wilder and Ruiz are under the Premier Boxing Champions banner – making it an easy fight to make if both boxers continue to win.
“My time? It will come,” Wilder said. “I will be unified and undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
“I spoke it, I believe it, and I shall receive it.”
At the moment the location of the Wilder-Ortiz rematch has not been announced, but most insiders believe the contest will land in Los Angeles on a date in October or November.
Fury is slated to come back to the ring in September, against an opponent to be announced – while Joshua vs. Ruiz is being positioned for a date in December, with the Principality in Cardiff as the frontrunner location to host.
