In the past couple of years, web series have become increasingly popular in Nigeria. Owing to the success of shows like Skinny Girl In Transit, Gidi Up and Shuga a lot more have been popping up, and the latest one to catch our attention is the hilarious Chairman.
Directed by AMVCA nominee, Imoh Umoren, Chairman follows the story of a wealthy and uneducated politician. As a means to facilitate his political interests, he buys a newspaper company and ends up saddled with a dying business which causes him trouble every day.
Using satire, the web series mirrors our society at all levels — from the lowly clerks to those in higher positions, who set the climate for the entire nation. While it’s hilarious, it’s also ladened with hard truths that will cause viewers to think about the state of their community.
The episodes will be released weekly on YouTube, so make sure you catch up on the first two right here:
