Adekunle Gold and Mr Eazi are two immensely creative afropop artists, consistently stepping out of their comfort zones when it comes to collaborations. The pair were recently spotted on Walshy Fire’s ABENG, and now, they boast standout features on Michael Brun‘s debut LP, Lokal.
Speaking with Rolling Stone about what inspired the far-reaching album, the Haitian DJ said:
“[During my DJ sets], I was playing a lot of afrobeats, and I was also playing a lot of Haitian music. I was like, what will bridge the gap in my set? I’m gonna make that track.”
Well, thankfully, the gifted Brun didn’t just make one solitary track. In fact, he ended up creating a bunch of afropop-inspired numbers to join the house, pop and jazz-influenced bangers that make up the eclectic collection that is Lokal.
The first Nigerian-assisted track to come up on the project is “Eda”, featuring captivating vocal work from our very own Adekunle Gold. “Eda” begins with Haitain musician, BélO’s raspy vocals dishing out sensual bars in French, set to the mood of his soft yet speedy strings.
As the song crescendos, Adekunle Gold’s silky voice enters, and he seamlessly glides atop the jazzy beat. Claiming to be the only one deserving of the girl’s love — even though he isn’t exactly the one she wants — Adekunle Gold begs her not to leave him, but to love him back instead.

Mr Eazi gets to do a lot more than Adekunle Gold, appearing in two places: firstly, on the energetic “Akwaaba” remix, dubbed “Akwaaba Ayiti”; and secondly, to open the album’s sixth track, “Pa Pale”, where he is charged with the lively bop’s memorable chorus.
Mr Eazi truly flaunts his dexterity on “Pa Pele”, taking the chorus in French. Baky seamlessly takes over from Mr Eazi’s opening chorus with an aggressive rap verse, while Kanis manages to stand out with a dynamic closing verse, upon which she sings and raps.
