For over two weeks, a male student of the University of Lagos has reportedly been missing.

The missing 300-level philosophy student identified as Aworetan Oluwashina was reportedly last seen on campus by his classmates over two weeks ago.

A source who disclosed Oluwashina’s reported disappearance said, “Missing person at Unilag. Aworetan Oluwashina, a 300 level student of Philosophy, has been missing for over two weeks.

“Why the university authorities have not reported this case to the police, they don’t know. The classmates saw him last in school.”

Oluwashina’s elder brother, Aworetan Soji, who confirmed his disappearance to SaharaReporters in a phone conversation, also said that the family did not know his whereabouts.

Soji said his brother had not been taking his examinations in school.

Soji said that the family had reported the incident to the University of Lagos Dean of Students Affairs, adding that they would report his disappearance to the police on Friday.

He, however, said he learnt that Oluwashina recently called their mother but did not say where he was.

He said, “I’m the elder brother. He has been missing because we cannot connect with him. We have been trying to with connect him. I’m even trying to go to police station to report it.

“We have been to all the places he used to go to and asked but they said he was in school. We could not also reach him in school and his colleagues said they saw him last about three weeks ago.

“Exams are going on but he has not been taking any exam. This morning (Thursday morning), Mother called me and said that he called and when she asked him where he was, he said he was around Akoka. After a while, we couldn’t reach the number again. The phone is switched off.

“He didn’t explain why he had not been reachable or why he was there. The mother wanted to probe further but the number suddenly went off and we couldn’t reach him again.

“I have circulated the number to my friends to call but no one is getting the connection again.

“We reported to the dean of students’ affairs. The dean even called me in the morning about the incident.”

When contacted on the phone for comment, the University of Lagos Public Relations Officer, Alagba Ibraheem, directed our reporter to send his inquiry to the university’s communication unit via email and assured him that he would be attended to without delay.

However, there was no response from the school over seven hours after SaharaReporters mailed questions to the school.

Efforts to reach Ibraheem again failed as the school spokesperson did not answer subsequent calls.
