The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 on Sunday, February 11, as the host country, Ivory Coast defeated them 2:1.
The Super Eagles were the first to score in the first half of the game but the Elephants of Ivory Coast equalized in the second half and later went on to scored a second goal. The match took place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Ivory Coast takes home $7 million for lifting the trophy. While the runners-up, Nigeria, gets $4 million. The two losing semi-finalists, South Africa and Democratic Republic of the Congo, each receive $2.5 million.
