The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Kwankwasiyya Movement in the state of orchestrating a group of youths, purportedly APC members, to call for the removal of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the party.

The youth groups, allegedly sponsored by Kwankwasiyya, urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss Ganduje for his perceived failure in delivering Kano State to the party during the last governorship election. Sadiq Ali Sango, the group’s chairman, also appealed to the President to welcome Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) into the APC.

“We are calling on Kwankwaso to join APC; we are ready to support and work with him for the betterment of our dear state and Nigeria at large,” said Sango.

In response, Shehu Maigari, the Deputy Chairman of APC in the state, denied the existence of any youth group within the APC calling for Ganduje’s removal. He alleged that the groups were sponsored by the Kwankwasiyya Movement, suggesting a motive to join or influence the APC after a previous conflict.

Abdul Zulu, an aide to Ganduje, dismissed the allegation, asserting that Sango, the leader of the group, is a Kwankwasiyya Movement member. The authenticity of a picture showing Sango with Kwankwaso has not been independently verified.

Hashim Dungurawa, chairman of the NNPP in Kano and a Kwankwasiyya Movement member, distanced his group from the APC dispute, emphasizing that they had no involvement.

The Kano Integrity Block, another group, urged Nigerians to disregard calls by sponsored youths claiming to be APC members advocating for Ganduje’s removal. In a statement, they described the youths as politically motivated groups seeking to tarnish the efforts of APC’s national chairman.

Interest groups in the North Central region were also reportedly contemplating efforts to oust Ganduje from the national chairmanship position, expressing dissatisfaction with the alleged sidelining of the region after Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s resignation.
