The Supreme Court has upheld the victory of Dapo Abiodun as the governor of Ogun State.
The appellants, Ladi Adebutu and the Peoples Democratic Party, urged the apex court to mandate the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct new elections in the 99 polling units where elections were claimed to be canceled.
On November 24, 2023, the Lagos Division of the Appeal Court, in a split decision, affirmed Abiodun’s re-election.
Justice Joseph Ikyegh, in the majority judgment, dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP and its governorship candidate.
Justice Tijani Abubakar, in delivering the lead judgment, dismissed the appeal.
Kanyi Daily recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, winner of the governorship election in the state.
