Nigerian Man Begins 200-Hour Ironing Marathon Goal To Break Guinness World Record In Kogi

Dauda Abdulfatai, a Nigerian man, has begun a 200-hour ironing marathon with the goal of breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous ironing session.

SaharaReporters reports that Dauda started the marathon on Wednesday morning at Off Ajaokuta Road, Ganaja Village, Lokoja, Kogi State. His goal is to break the existing record of 100 hours held by Gareth Sander of the United Kingdom.

Gareth Sanders, 28, a cleaning company manager, broke the world record for non-stop ironing after ironing around 2,000 items and going flat-out for nearly 100 hours in 2015.

SaharaReporters also obtained an acceptance email issued to Dauda by the Guinness World Record allowing him to begin the contest to break the record.

“Application Reference: 230618101834|mi Hello Dauda Abdulfatai We are pleased to inform you that your application has been accepted under the following title: Longest marathon ironing,” The GWR informed Dauda.

The quest to be in the Guinness World Record became very prominent in Nigeria and other African countries when a Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci broke the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.

SaharaReporters also reported how an African man identified as Tembu Ebere confirmed that he partially went blind while attempting to cry for seven days to set a record in the Guinness World Records.

Ebere, who confirmed his health issues to BBC said that he forced himself to cry for seven days for the record but along the line, he went temporarily blind.

Ebere, who had been attempting to cry non-stop for seven days said that he experienced headaches, puffy eyes and a swollen face and went partially blind for 45 minutes amid his efforts.

Earlier this month, SaharaReporters also reported how a community leader in Ekiti State, Sanya Atofarati finished his 120 hours challenge to set the new Guinness World Records (GWR) for longest marathon for watching television.

It was learnt that the community leader who began the marathon television watching challenge on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 ended it on Monday, January 1, 2024 after clocking the targeted 120 hours in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
