A former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani has called on the Guinness World Records (GWR) group to demand medical records of intending participants wishing to break a record.
Sani made the call in a terse tweet on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday.
He said the call was because of the extreme pressure and stress candidates subject themselves to for record trophies.
The ex-lawmaker added that the risk for a record should not ignore health concerns.
He particularly urged the world’s unrivalled authority on record-breaking achievement to disqualify persons not medically or mentally fit for “such risky adventures“, noting that “This is also a moral and ethical issue.”
Shehu Sani’s concern comes a few days after a Nigerian man was reported to have cried himself to blindness in an attempt to break a record.
Sani who is now regarded as a social commentator told the GWR that it should not become “a suicidal platform for record.”

Kanyi Daily recalls that a Nigerian lady, Joyce Ijeoma recently collapsed while trying to set the record for the longest body massage session.
After the development, the GWR issued a public statement, apparently directed at Nigerians on its official Twitter handle asking intending candidates to seek approval from it before attempting to set records.
The craze of Guinness World Record attempts gained momentum after Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci broke the record for the longest cook-a-thon by an individual in May.
