Altims Is The Mavin Records Producer Behind A Lot Of Your Favourite Songs
Boasting past and present artists such as Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks and Rema, Mavin Records stands as one of Nigeria‘s most impressive and consistent institutions, with Altims, their in-house beatsmith, deserving praise for most of the hits that have made the label such a force.
Born Aluku Timothy, Altims spent the earliest part of his adult years studying Computer Engineering at the University of Benin. While he always had a passion for music, it wasn’t until his first meeting with Don Jazzy that he gained the confidence to start producing full-time.
Don Jazzy, the icon who co-founded Mo’ Hits Records and founded Mavin Records, was first introduced to Altims thanks to the wide-reaching power of the internet, with the rising producer’s work speaking on his behalf. Speaking about how they got connected, Altims told Konbini:
“I made a remix of ‘Take Banana’, off the Solar Plexus album in 2012. Don heard it, he reached out and the rest is history.”
Now, the talented producer, DJ and sound engineer shares his talents with one of the most reputable record labels in Nigeria, and even boasts collaborations with world-renowned artists, such as Kelly Rowland, who appeared on the remix of Korede Bello’s monster hit, “Do Like That”.
That explains why it’s the track Altims is most proud of. He admitted:
“I am quite proud of all the song’s I’ve produced, but I must say, ‘Do Like That’ by Korede Bello was it for me.”
With producers stepping further into the limelight — the likes of Genio, GMK and Killertunes have all revealed that they will be dropping projects soon — Altims is yet another beatsmith promising us a body of work of his own, and we already know that it will be special.
On his 2019 roster, Altims also has more DJing gigs lined up, “some EPs with industry heavyweights”, and he’s hopeful he’ll get to produce for Koffee before the year runs out. We are definitely rooting for the gifted producer, and we cannot wait to hear more from him.
