WIMBLEDON 2023: Tough times ahead as World No. 1 sends strict warning to title rivals

The 2023 Wimbledon is definitely getting tougher as World No. 1, Iga Swiatek sends a warning to her title rivals after booking her place in the third round on Wednesday.

National Daily can confirm that the Polish star had registered a dominant 6-2 6-0 second-round victory against unseeded Spanish player Sara Sorribes Tormo on Centre Court.

Swiatek was struggling with illness heading into the Championships and she has not performed well on grass courts throughout her career, with some tipping Aryna Sabalenka to go on and beat her to this year’s Wimbledon trophy.

But following two dominant wins, Swiatek has silenced her critics, revealing she is now ‘really confident’ on grass and feels it could be ‘her tournament’ in the future

‘I feel really confident,’ Swiatek said in her post-match press conference. ‘I was able to kind of do everything tactically as I wanted to, as my coach wanted me to do, in the first and second round.

‘Yeah, I feel confident. I’m going to try to kind of keep it going. Yeah, that’s all.’

Speaking in her on-court interview, Swiatek added: ‘I’m happy I could play such a solid game and convert what I was practising.

‘I feel confident and happy which doesn’t happen often at Wimbledon. I learned a lot and I can adjust my game now to grass courts. I’m getting there for sure.

‘I always feel like every year will give me more experience. I have played well here in juniors. In the future it could be my tournament.

‘Every year it will be easier to play here. I feel really confident which is great.’
