President Bola Tinubu, on Monday, sacked the service chiefs he inherited from former President Muhammadu Buhari, and made new appointments, who he directed to resume immediately. The President also ordered the immediate retirement of the service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs, and others.
The Director of Information, Willie Bassey, in a statement on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, declared: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate retirement of all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, Comptroller-General of Customs from Service as well as their replacements with immediate effect,”
Accordingly, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; the Chief of Army Staff, Faruk Yahaya; the Chief of Naval Staff, Awwal Gambo, the Chief of Air Staff, Isiaka Amao, the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Usman; were compelled to proceed on compulsory retirement from service.
