The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State chapter, Chief Felix Obuah, has stated that the sacrifices of the martyrs who lost their lives during this year’s bloody February 23 and March 9 elections in the Niger Delta state must not be in vain.
Obuah, Friday in Port Harcourt, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, also congratulated the state and National Assembly members of Rivers PDP on their successful inauguration.
He noted that looking back to all that happened during and after the 2019 elections in Rivers that brought the lawmakers to office, one could not, but acknowledge and thank God for His mercies and love for the state.
Rivers PDP chairman said: “The only way we can show gratitude to God is to do that which is right for the welfare and good of all Rivers people.
“It is regrettable that lives were lost for justice to prevail during the elections. It is imperative, particularly on the part of the lawmakers, to ensure that the sacrifices of the martyrs are not in vain.”
Obuah also expressed gratitude to God for Rivers state and Governor Nyesom Wike for the courage to withstand the political storm that characterized the 2019 elections in the state, praying that the grace that sustained Wike would continue to direct his footsteps in the days ahead.
He stressed the need for teamwork, if the lofty ideals and policies of the PDP-led Rivers government must remain on course and eventually actualised.
Rivers PDP chairman charged the lawmakers not to forget that the interests of people of their constituencies were paramount and they must ensure that Wike was given all the necessary support and encouragement to govern the state.
Obuah, while praying and committing the new lawmakers both at the State and federal levels, including the Wike’s administration to God’s hands, also pleaded with Rivers people to show understanding and patience, stressing that quality leadership and good governance required time and diligence.
