The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi-Ojaja II has disclosed details of his meeting with President Bola Tinubu alongside other traditional rulers.
Politics Nigeria reports that the National Council of Traditional Rulers had paid a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at the Villa on Friday.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Ooni said the traditional rulers promised to help the president tackle Nigeria’s lingering security challenge.
The respected Yoruba traditional ruler explained that it has become expedient for the President to make use of them as they are the closest to the people and best suitable to tackle the issue head-long.
“There are areas we will like to work with you, one of which is security. It is time to use us the more, we are not saying we are idle…but to make your work easier use us,” Ooni said.
“The foundation of this country today are the traditional rulers. We are here to pledge our loyalty and support. We want to work with you to ensure you leave a legacy.
“Don’t underestimate what traditional rulers can do”, he said.
Corroborating, the Sultan of Sokoto and co-lead Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, noted that the monarchs do not envy President Tinubu at this time with the numerous challenges facing the country.
Abubakar expressed confidence that with the combination of himself and Vice President, Kashim Shettima, Nigeria is on its way to better days.
The Sultan of Sokoto pledged the commitment of traditional rulers to the safety, peace and development of the country.
