Late last year, Olamide used his stacked mixtape, Mafia Family, to introduce the world to his latest cohort of YBNL signees. While most of the tracks were collaborative numbers, Fireboy DML was granted two solo tracks, “I’ll Be Fine” and the album standout, “Jealous”.
Well, with “Jealous” currently regarded as one of the best Nigerian songs out right now, it’s no surprise that the fast-rising star is capitalising on all that momentum. He’s now come through with “What If I Say”, a fantastic follow-up that reaffirms just how talented he is.
Fireboy DML opens “What If I Say” with melodic chants, similar to what he did on “Jealous”, filling Pheelz’s bubbly beat right from the start. On the track, Fireboy sings, rather beautifully, about reuniting with the love of his life, intent on officially making her his woman.
For the video, Fireboy meets up with his lover, and they both explore the coast of a serene island, clearly enamored with each other. Throughout the crisp TG Omori-directed clip, Fireboy is accosted by fans, but even they are not enough to distract him from the woman he loves.
