The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; and Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, on Thursday, expressed sadness over the death of Senator Annie Okonkwo.
Okonkwo, a former lawmaker representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, reportedly died in the United States after a prolonged illness.
In a statement by his Press Secretary on Thursday, Governor Soludo noted that as a prominent son of Anambra State who hailed from Ojoto in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, the late Senator Okonkwo paid his dues to the state.
The governor commiserated with the family and friends of the deceased over this painful loss.
Also, in Twitter post on Thursday, Obi, who is also a former governor of Anambra State, praised Okonkwo as one of the strongest pillars of his presidential ambition despite not being a member of the Labour Party.
He said the deceased lawmaker’s “highly entrepreneurial spirit and political sagacity will be greatly missed in the country today.”
