President Bola Tinubu will be holding consultation with the newly elected members of the National Assembly.
The Permanent Secretary in the State House, Tijjani Umar,in an invitation statement on Sunday, indicated that President Bola Tinubu will meet with opposition National Assembly members-elect on Monday.
The statement highlighted that President Tinubu will be meeting with the newly elected Senators at 3:00 pm, and with the House of Representatives member at 5:00 pm.
The Permanent Secretary had requested the invited federal legislators to submit their names for security clearance in the presidency.
The invitation notice reads: “I write to inform you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will hold a meeting with members of the opposition Senators-elect and opposition House of Representatives members-elect in the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday, 5th June 2023 at 15:00 hours and 1700 hours respectively.
“In this regard, you are kindly requested to inform all concerned members to attend and forward their list early enough for security clearance. Please, accept the assurances of the President’s highest consideration.”
While details of the meeting were not disclosed, there are indications that the proposed meeting may not be unconnected with the election of the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had nominated former Governor Godswill Akpabio, as consensus candidate for the Senate President and Barau Jibrin, representing Kano North, for Deputy Senate President.
The APC leadership also endorsed Tajudeen Abbas from Kaduna State for Speaker, and Benjamin Kalu from Imo for Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Some of the newly elected members of the 10th National Assembly supporting the nominated legislators for the National Assembly leadership, insinuated that President Tinubu has endorsed the nominees.
