Ganduje assures seamless transition, peaceful handover

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Saturday promised a “seamless” transition and peaceful handover to the incoming government. The governor said he was preparing handover notes to his successor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who won the governorship on the platform of the opposition New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

Ganduje, in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, said the main transition committee and the various sub-committees are working towards smooth handing over of power in the state. The governor refuted reports by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) that his administration is undermining the transition programme.

“The main transition committee and the various sub-committees at the levels of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are working tirelessly to make substantial progress towards preparing a handing over notes to the incoming administration. While the transition committee by the outgoing government prepares final handing over report, the committee by the incoming administration will eventually receive the report at appropriate time.

”The inclusion of representatives from the incoming government is based on the need to ensure transparency and openness in the process,” the governor said.

 He added that “since the outgoing government is having all the relevant data and information at its disposal, which the transition committee is gathering, the incoming government needs the least representation in the committee, just as it obtains in other states where transition is between different political parties.”

According to him, the aim of the transition committee is to prepare a handing over from one government to another and not presenting or promoting any form of ideology. The government called on the elements of the incoming government to tread carefully and work for a smooth transition process to avoid anything that could sabotage the process. “The outgoing government expects that the issue of ideology and new programmes to be initiated by the NNPP should wait for the unveiling when the new government is inaugurated,” Ganduje advised.
