April 13, (THEWILL) – Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Sinatu Ojikutu, has alleged that her life is being threatened by “disgruntled politicians”, for not supporting the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
Briefing newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday, Ojikutu said she was currently endangered, ostracised and humiliated.
The former deputy governor, who said she supported the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, in the just-concluded presidential election, noted that her decision was to ensure equity, justice and fairness.
“If we claim we are one united Nigeria, It should reflect in our character and attitude, and so the Igbo also should be given the opportunity to rule Nigeria”, she said.
Speaking on threat to her life, Ojikutu recalled that she had at various times before the elections and after been subjected to different forms of harassment, intimidation and humiliation, even in places where she deserved honour and respect; adding that she had already vowed to renounce her nationality and relocate to another country where she can live peacefully.
“I have viewed it that, if Bola Tinubu wins the presidential election, I have threatened to renounce my citizenship of Nigeria. I am personally endangered, ostracised, I have been humiliated where I should be honoured
“It bothers me, it is worrisome. People have been calling me to take it easy. I have said it, I would renounce my citizenship and I am working on it”, she said.
Ojikutu disclosed that she sent entreaty to the president-elect through his associates, to know why she was much hated because of political differences, but said the response she got through them was that, Tinubu allegedly demanded to know if she were still alive.
“He once demanded to know if I was still alive. Up till today, since I raised the issue in January this year none of his associates has come back to me to give me a reply, which gives me some concern.
“People complain that some people don’t like Asiwaju Tinubu, what about those ones he does not like, do they know how those ones are fairing?” she queried.
Ojikutu alleged that because of hatred Tinubu had for her (fallout first of the encounters she had with him as Commissioner representing Lagos State at the Federal Character Commission (FCC) while he was serving as governor of the state), the Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) of her land on Bishop Aboyade Cole Street, Victoria Island was revoked.
On the last general elections, the former deputy governor, warned that the issues surrounding the exercise needed to be resolved on time.
She noted that those who were not comfortable about the outcome of the elections had every right to challenge the process in court, warning further that a situation whereby those challenging the electioneering process were being threatened with treason makes the situation messier.
Ojikutu, while insisting that move to malign members of the opposition party for challenging outcome of the poll would make the nation be in turmoil, however, urged whoever was sworn in as the president of Nigeria to take it as a task to restructure the country so that each geo- political zone might developed at its own pace.
