The deputy national chairman (south), Lamidi Bashir Apapa, and his group have been condemned for political brigandage by 36 state chairmen of the Labour Party (LP).
In a communique issued over the weekend, the chairmen called for the Apapa-led faction to withdraw its lawsuit against some party members to end the LP crisis. The chairmen stated that few insignificant members of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Apapa and his gang had criminally declared themselves the new leadership of the party.
They also called on those who violated the party’s constitution by taking internal matters to court without exhausting appropriate dispute resolution channels to withdraw their cases.
The chairmen confirmed that Julius Abure remained the LP’s national chairman despite allegations of forgery and anti-party activities. The NWC meeting called by Apapa was deemed a nullity and any decision made was of no legal effect. The chairmen proposed the summoning of an immediate meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC).
