The Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate, Lagos state, Fredrick Nwajagu, has been arrested in a midnight raid by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Department of State Services (DSS).
Nwajagu was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, April 1, for threatening to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the state to secure properties of Igbo people within the state.
A police source revealed that the team stormed his palace but he fled, however, he was eventually traced to a hotel in Ejigbo and arrested around 1 am.
The source added that he is currently in the custody of the DSS.
Recall that Nwajagu, on Friday, March 31, said that the move to invite IPOB members to Lagos state became necessary in the wake of attacks on some Igbo people residing in the state.
The Igbo leader said that, “We will invite IPOB members to Lagos state. They have no job.
“All the IPOB members will be invited to protect us and secure our properties in Lagos, and we have to pay them.
“We have to mobilize them for this purpose. We have to do that.
“We must have our own security so that some people will stop attacking us in the midnight, morning, afternoon.
“When they discover that we have our own security, before they come, they will know that we have our own men there.
“I am not hiding my face and I’m not taking my words back. Let my words go viral.
“Igbo must get their rights in Lagos state,” he added.
