President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, January 17, urged the senate to consider and approve the nomination of seven persons for reappointment as national commissioners of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read by senate president Ahmad Lawan during plenary on Tuesday afternoon, The Nation reports.
The letter reads in part, “In accordance with section 3(3) and (7) of the corrupt practices and other related offences act 2000, I write to seek for confirmation by the senate the under-listed names of seven (7) persons for reappointment as national commissioners of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).”
The names of the national commissioners of the anti-graft agency forwarded to the upper chamber for screening and confirmation include Adamu Bello (Katsina state) to represent north-west, Hannatu Mohammed (Jigawa state) to represent north-west, Mrs. Olubukola Balogun (Lagos state) to represent south-west and Dr. Grace Nkechiyere Chinda (Delta state) to represent south-south.
Others include Barr. Obiora Samuel Igwedibia (Anambra state) to represent south-east, Abdullahi Maikano (Niger state) to represent north central, and Prince Dauda Yahaya Umar (Nasarawa state) to represent north central, in the commission.
