Last week, actor and singer, Rotimi — best known for his standout work in the beloved series, Power — released a vibrant video for his Harmony Samuels-produced single, “Love Riddim”. Now, the Nigerian-American star has dropped his exciting new project, Walk With Me.

On the EP, Rotimi looks to keep his listeners hooked from start to finish and, thanks to some solid production work, he accomplishes just that. The project begins with reggae-inspired instrumentals, before Rotimi smoothly steers the opening track, “Legend”, into his r&b comfort zone.

Throughout the tape, Rotimi guides us through different phases of his relationships. On “Legend”, he sings about going from a fling to a serious relationship. As the tape goes on, we experience a more tortured side of the musician, as he reminisces over a lost love on “Sip Slow”.

Although Rotimi predominantly sticks to r&b, Walk With Me sees him experiment with different genres. The EP closer, “Push Button Start” adopts dancehall influences, thanks to a sample of Kevin Little’s “Turn Me On” and Jamaican singer, Vanessa Bling’s guest work.

Before the project’s release, Rotimi shared his hopes for the project via Instagram, saying:

“I really wanted to take my time with this to be as authentic as I could, to embrace my Nigerian- American heritage…”

He managed to do this on the afropop-influenced banger, “Summertime”, which boats a beat we are used to hearing on this side of the world. We’re rather impressed with all the tracks on the EP, and we can’t wait to hear more from the talented multi-hyphenate.
