The US private nurses have embarked on history’s s biggest industrial strike in the country.
No fewer than 15000 from Minnesota and Wisconsin kickstarted the industrial action on Monday to demand better working conditions and higher wages. Negotiation has stalled for months.
The action will end on Thursday, according to the spokesman for the Minnesota Nurses Association which was coordinating the action.
The protesters carried placards with screaming inscriptions like: “Patients Before Profits,” .
Many assembled I groups outside some of the 16 affected hospitals, according to photographs the union posted online.
But North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota said it “may be making some adjustments to non-emergency care and services to ensure adequate and safe staffing during the strike period.”
It further stressed it will continue to offer its “full range of services” including inpatient, outpatient and emergency care, and that it would serve customers for any previously scheduled appointments.
Just like in Nigeria, the Academic Staff Union of Nigerians universities have been on strike for about eight months with no resolution yet in sight.
