Late last year, CBS announced Bob Hearts Abishola, a new TV show from The Big Bang Theory‘s Chuck Lorre.  The new comedy cast British-Nigerian actress, Folake Olowofoyeku (The Gifted, Westworld) in the lead role, opposite Billy Gardell (Mike & Molly).

Now, the official trailer for the show has dropped, and it shows Olowofoyeku shining in her role as the quintessential Nigerian immigrant who is just there to work, make money and stay out of trouble. It also features Nigerian accents that are actually not half bad.

Bob Hearts Abishola follows an American man, Bob (played by Gardell), who, after a heart attack, falls in love with his Nigerian nurse, Abishola (played by Olowofoyeku), a no-nonsense Nigerian immigrant who lives in a small apartment with her aunt, uncle and teenage son.

In the trailer, we get to see the relatable dynamics in Abishola’s family, including a judgemental aunty, a hapless uncle and her son who just wants to cut loose(r than Nigerian parents will allow). We also meet Bob’s doting mom, who thinks the world revolves around her son.

Bob Hearts Abishola will premiere sometime in September, and we can’t wait.
