The Nigerian Army has dismissed two soldiers allegedly involved in the killing of an Islamic cleric Goni Aisami in Yobe state.
The Acting Commander Officer in charge of Army’s 241 Reece battalion in Nguru, Ibrahim Osabo, made this known in an interview with journalists on Saturday.
He stated that the suspects, John Gabriel and Adamu Gideon, both lance corporals, have been dismissed after they were found guilty by a joint board of inquiry set up in collaboration with the police.
Osabo said the two soldiers were dismissed on a two-count charge of failure to perform duties and conduct prejudice to service discipline.
Speaking further, Osabo said that the dismissed soldiers will be handed over to the police in Damaturu for prosecution.
Blueprint report that Aisami who was travelling from Kano State was said to have given Gabriel a lift.
On getting to Jaji-Maji, a village along Gashua town, Gabriel was said to have told the deceased that there was an unusual noise at the rear tyre. The cleric, it was gathered, stopped to check the tyres.
Gabriel was said to have allegedly brought out his rifle concealed in a camp bed and shot the cleric dead.
The suspect, however, called Gideon on phone to assist him to tow the vehicle.
The police had earlier paraded the two soldiers and three other persons over the alleged murder.
President Muhammadu Buhari had also directed the military to flush out the killers of the cleric.
