Earlier on in the year, Victor AD teamed up with Davido for “Tire You” — a  worthy follow-up to his 2018 breakout single, “Wetin We Gain”. After that, he dropped the politically conscious “Why”, and he has now come through with another impressive track, “Emoji“.

Following “Wetin We Gain” we noted Victor AD as a star to watch, and he’s proved us right every step of the way. The singer certainly does not disappoint with “Emoji”, delivering an innovative and cheeky track that differs from his previous releases.

Against the enjoyable Tee Y Mix-produced beat, Victor AD expresses concern over people’s ability to hide behind emojis. He notes that with a well-placed smiley, someone could pretend to be happy or supportive even when they’re really sad or hateful.

Speaking about the song on Instagram, he says:

“We all pretend for a living to stay strong! I might be depressed, but just because I don’t want you to give up on me, I will come out here looking like this: ??. We dey hide behind these emojis.”
