The Niger State Police Command has arrested a member of a notorious kidnap syndicate while hatching a plot to abduct one Abubakar Sule at a pub in the state.
The suspect, Ibrahim Bahago, of Fulani Camp, in the Lapai Local Government Area of the state was apprehended by a team of policemen attached to the Lapai division.
It was learnt that the suspect and five members of his group were at the pub discussing how to kidnap Sule, a member of the Fulani vigilante group in Kpada, when an informant alerted the police to their plan.
Northern City News gathered on Sunday that Bahago was arrested by the police, while his cohorts escaped.
The suspect told our correspondent that he never knew that an informant was eavesdropping on their plan to abduct Sule.
Bahago said, “I never knew that someone was listening to our conversation. We have been into this act for some time now; but my mind was telling me that one day I might be caught.”
The state Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect confessed to the crime.
Abubakar said Bahago’s house was searched and the operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, 60 rounds of live ammunition, one shirt, two shirts and one container of oil.
He noted that the suspect would be arraigned in court after investigation.
