Since 2007, when he started Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj, Don Jazzy has been one of our music industry’s most vital players. After their heartbreaking split in 2012, he carried on that legacy with Mavin Records, a label which has paved the way for many undeniable stars.
Now, seven years later, the label is regarded as a star-making behemoth, and Don Jazzy hasn’t faulted in his mission of discovering hidden gems. The label’s stars are among the strongest in the game, with almost every one of them bringing their best to each new drop.
The label’s roster is wonderfully eclectic — ranging from the talented rapper, Ladipoe, to the alternative singer, Johnny Drille. Over the past seven years, they’ve racked up quite the discography, delivering a variety of songs with rather impressive staying power.
So, as they celebrate their seventh year in the game, we’ve decided to collate a list of our favourite songs from the stars, both past and present, of Mavin Records. From older jams like Wande Coal’s “The Kick”, to newer releases like Rema’s “Dumebi”, here are our picks:
“Dumebi” – Rema
“Adaobi” – Mavin
“Star” – DNA
“Take Banana” – D’Prince
“The Kick” – Wande Coal
“Wait For Me” – Johnny Drille
“Ma Lo” – Tiwa Savage
“Problem” – Reekado Banks
“Jaiye” – Ladipoe
“Like Dat”- Korede Bello
