July 03, (THEWILL) – The immediate past commissioner for environment in Enugu State, Chijioke Edeoga, has emerged as the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the State.
He replaced Casmir Agbo, who was earlier elected as the party’s governorship candidate in the State.
Edeoga, who contested the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election, confirmed the development to newsmen on Sunday.
Prior to the PDP primary election, he was strongly rumoured to be the aspirant to beat in the exercise, but it later went in favour of Barr. Peter Mbah.
He had polled nine votes to come second behind Mba, who polled over 700 votes to clinch the guber ticket of the PDP.
However, news filtered in Saturday evening, that Edoga had defected to the Labour Party and picked the governorship ticket.
Confirming the development on Sunday morning, Edeoga said, “yes, it’s true. I’m now the Labour Party governorship candidate.”
Agbo, who is the State Chairman of the LP and former guber candidate, also confirmed the development.
“I can tell you authoritatively that Edeoga is now our candidate. You can go to press with that”, he said.
Agbo said the decision to pick Edeoga as his replacement was taken at an enlarged State Executive Council meeting of the party on Saturday.
