A BBC Radio 5Live presenter, Danny Baker, has been fired after he compared the Royal Baby to a Chimpanzee.
Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry, gave birth during the early hours of Monday, to a baby boy, who is the first mixed-race child to be born into the top hierarchy of British royalty in recent history.
The 61-year-old broadcaster took to his Twitter page last night and shared a picture of a couple leaving a hospital, holding hands with a chimpanzee dressed in clothes, with the caption: “Royal baby leaving hospital.”
He deleted the tweet and insisted he didn’t have any racist intent against the duchess’ racial heritage.
“Just got fired,” Danny Baker, the broadcaster with BBC Radio 5Live, said on Twitter this morning.
According to reports, controller Jonathan Wall told all 5 Live staff in an email:
“Danny made a serious error of judgement on social media last night and it goes against the values we live and breathe on this radio station.”
“Danny is a brilliant broadcaster, but will no longer be presenting a weekly show with us.”
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan showed their son to the public for the first time on Wednesday.
Harry and Meghan, whose mother Doria Ragland is African American, revealed on Wednesday their new son was named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Archie, who is seventh in line to the British throne, is expected to hold dual citizenship of Britain and the U.S
