ABUJA – The Federal Government has reiterated the determination of the current administration under President Muhammadu Buhari to bequeath to the country a long-lasting legacy of improved infrastructural facilities and a better economy.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said this at a news conference on Friday in Abuja, where he announced the lineup of activities for the 61st Independence anniversary celebration.

Mohammed, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Ifeoma Adaora Anyanwutaku, said President Buhari approved the lineup of activities for the anniversary celebration, indicating that the Independence anniversary parade would hold at the popular Eagle Square, Abuja.

“It is my pleasure to brief you all on the programme of activities lined up to mark the 61st Independence Anniversary Celebration. This Press Conference, therefore, will signpost the commencement of activities for this year’s celebration.

“As you are aware, we are just about rounding off activities marking the 60th year-long Diamond Jubilee Independence Anniversary celebration, which will terminate 30th September 2021.

“In other words, the activities of the 60th independence anniversary have been arranged to dovetail into that of the 61st Independence Anniversary.

“The Independence Day for us is a joyous occasion, it is an occasion for Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of our forebears at gaining independence from the colonial masters and to appreciate the varied contributions of successive administrations at building our nation-state, just as we are witnessing the avowed determination of President Muhammadu Buhari to bequeath to the Nation a long-lasting legacy of improved infrastructural facilities and a better economy.

“Mr. President has approved the following line up of activities: Special Interdenominational Church Service, Sunday 26th September 2021, at National Christian Centre, Abuja,

“Special award ceremony/ Discover Nigeria, anniversary parade on 1st October, at Eagle Square, Abuja, and Special Juma’at Service at National Mosque, Abuja,” he said.
