In 2017, Davido‘s sound and career saw a massive renaissance, and the comeback was so huge that, two years later, the afropop juggernaut is still enjoying the acclaim and attention it brought him.
While he’s previously said that the Tekno-produced “If” is the song that changed his life, it appears that “Fall” is the track that actually has the most staying power, as it’s still breaking records — recently becoming the 28th most played song on American radio.
Even though Davido recently said that he doesn’t want “Fall” to be the song he’s remembered for, the monster hit isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, as two months ago it made history as the first-ever African music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube.
Along with that impressive YouTube record — which many people were initially expecting Yemi Alade’s beloved “Johnny” to break — the song was also recently dubbed the longest-charting Nigerian song in Billboard history.
While “Fall” wasn’t the best of his 2017 releases, it’s clearly resonating with a wider audience than Davido intended. Now that he’s unwittingly gotten the attention of the American audience, he’s teased that he will be releasing a “big remix” really soon.
If he can nab a Drake feature on said remix, it’s all over.
