A chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Barr. Olusegun Bamgbose has warned that Nigeria’s unity may become extinct if nothing is done about the current state of the nation.

The senior lawyer was making reference to the crisis in the South West following a quit notice issued to the Fulani community by a Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho.

Bamgbose says the events in recent times have shown that the security of lives and properties can no longer be guaranteed by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that a former National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega had recently described Buhari as a disappointment to his supporters and Nigerians.

Bamgbose says one cannot but agree with the submission of the former INEC boss.

“The current situation in our country is becoming unbecoming and except we handle the situation, with extreme caution, our unity may become history,” the senior lawyer said in a chat with DAILY POST on Monday.

“The tension brewing in the South West as per the quit notice given to the Fulani herdsmen by Sunday Igboho is an eye-opener that our President has lost control of the government.

“Our President has now become a ceremonial President who has preferred to promptly react to the death of prominent Nigerians, rather than the insecurity facing us as a nation.

“Let it be known to the South West and Nigeria as a whole that the Fulani clan is not our problem, but Buhari who has blatantly refused to do what he ought to do as the Chief Security Officer of the nation.

“Musa Yar’adua was a Fulani, but highly detribalised. He remains my hero any day, any time. If Buhari had followed in his footsteps, Nigeria wouldn’t be in this mess. The biggest headache in Nigeria is Buhari.

“His clannish attitude has visibly threatened our national unity. His exit from power will be worth celebrating. He will go down in the history of democracy in Nigeria as the most biased President of Nigeria.

“I believe Nigerians are eagerly looking forward to his exit from power come 2023. Nigerians can’t wait. One would however urge Nigerians to endure because Buhari may not likely change his attitude.

“Come 2023, Nigerians must open their eyes before supporting a candidate for Presidency, bearing in mind that to vote such a person out after the first tenure may not be feasible.
