The Chief Judge of Ekiti State High Court, Mr Ayodeji Daramola, has released 21 inmates out of 327 inmates awaiting trial in Ado Ekiti prison.
The Chief Judge, who released the 21 inmates during his first quarter prison visit in 2019, said his paramount reason for the visit was to inspect the welfare of the inmates.
Daramola said he wished to correct the impression of the society that the reason of his visit was to release prisoners but rather to see to the ultimate welfare of inmates.
He appealed to the Police Superintendent to put more effort in filling-in cases on time, lamenting the high number of awaiting trial inmates.
He commended the prison authorities for taking good care of the prisoners, stating that the inmates were all looking healthy and their environment very clean.
