A High Court in Jos has dismissed an application by former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and a former Presidential aspirant, Dr Obadiah Mailafia, seeking to stop the Police from investigating him.
Recall Mailafia was invited by the police for questioning at the Force Headquarters Abuja, last month over a statement credited to him that a prominent northern governor was sponsoring Boko Haram in the country.
Mailafia, while being interviewed during a programme on Nigeria Info 95.1FM, Abuja on August 10,had claimed repentant terrorists in the north informed him that a northern governor was one of their main sponsor, a statement that caused a great far and confusion among Nigerians, with the Northern Governors Forum asking the security agencies to investigate the allegation
According to the court, they maintained that the police said the invitation was based on investigating a case in which Malaifia’s name featured prominently hence the summons.
Mailafia had been invited twice which he reported for and was questioned but at the third invitation, he declined and approached a Jos High Court seeking to restrain the police from further ‘harassing’ and inviting him for questioning.
