The former commissioner for Information and convener for the APC, Coalition, Theodore Ekechi, alongside other members spoke at Imerienwe, Ngor Okpala local government area in Imo state.
It should be recalled that Okorocha fell apart with members of his party, most of whom then were serving in his government, because of his decision to support his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, to succeed him as the next governor of Imo state.
The drama led to the formation of the group called Coalition of Imo All Progressives Congress, APC, March 7, 2018, with the sole aim of stopping Okorocha from making Nwosu, governor. At exactly a year after, the group had met and said that their mission was accomplished despite, their party, APC, did not win the governorship position in Imo state.
However, the Imo state governorship/House of Assembly elections had been concluded, with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Emeka Ihedioha, emerged winner with the total votes of 273,404 to defeat other candidates in the race, where Okorocha’s preferred successor, Nwosu came second with 190,364 votes under the Action Action, AA.
According to Ekechi, Okorocha should quickly prepare his handover note as well as march forward to ask God for forgiveness, adding that Okorocha had failed because he rebuffed all the advice given to him.
Expressing how impressed his members have been, Ekechi said: “Diligently and dutifully, some of us who were close to him on the account that we worked in his administration, on numerous occasions, advised him against most of his anti people policies and openly counseled him against the syndrome of his self-exaggerated opinion of his popularity.
“But like the stubborn tsetse fly, he could only hear the voice of his even greedier, unforgiving and more ambitious spouse and therefore eventually ended in the grave along with the coffin. “Probably, Okorocha’s greatest undoing was his laughable and nauseating attempt of brazenly foisting his errand-boy son-in-law who then doubled as his chief of staff as his successor, thereby reducing succession to a lowly, sexually transmitted process.”
He described Okorocha’s actions as “an insult to the sensitivity of every sane Imo citizen. Every attempt made to get Okorocha rescind his Uche Nwosu hallucination was greeted with unmitigated disdain and rebuff. By this time, Okorocha who had lost Imo peoples’ support remained foolhardy.
He recalled that, “Consequently, it was a risk of a suicide proportion that we convened and issued the March 7, 2018 Imerienwe declaration, where we articulated a historic and symbolic seven-point resolution. The Imerienwe Declaration remains the watershed in the struggle against impunity and ‘self succession’ bid. It shattered Okorocha’s infantile dream of a third term by proxy.
“While reiterating then our unalloyed loyalty to him as the leader of APC, we were quick to warn that APC was “headed for a shameful, abysmal and colossal failure in the State in the 2019 elections, and this will tragically cut across and regrettably affect all of the Presidential, Governorship, National Assembly and State House of assembly chances”: How right we could be! How much we could be vindicated!! “True to our prediction Okorocha’s and his wife’s inordinate ambition of imposing their errand-boy son-in-law on Imo people, coupled with his rudderless leadership of perfidy and not paying attention to processes and proceedings expectedly cost the APC not just the governorship seat but also national assembly as well as state assembly positions.”
Okorocha said among other things that, “May we therefore, without equivocations, congratulate Imo people on their typical resolve, resilience, courage, patriotism and sacrifices in characteristically taking their destiny into their hands. “Imo people shunned the lure of stolen billions of naira from our treasure to stand down a vicious emperor who was instituting an undeserved dynasty unknown to the republican Igbo culture.
“Our people, our people, we thank you for redeeming our dignity and self pride by shutting up and shutting out Okorocha and his greedy family out of Imo peoples’ lives. Never again shall we condone the breeding of this kind of rascally, irresponsible impunity in the governance of Imo State again. Never! Ozoemena!
“He should forget the idea of challenging the matter in court as that will exacerbate the fury of a badly injured people. He should rather concentrate on the messy task of preparing his hand over note while devoting time in this Lenten season to seek the face of God on the very, very imminence of May 29.
“We cannot end this address without recognizing for posterity the undersigned patriots who, for the sake of Imo freedom, sacrificed rewarding opportunities, juicy Government appointments, their personal/family safety and property to confront a menacing and rampaging power hunter.”
