Ronaldo gingering his teammates at half-time
Juventus brought Cristiano Ronaldo to the club to help them win the Champions League – and he kept them in it on Tuesday.
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg against Atletico Madrid, Ronaldo scored his eighth hat-trick in the competition to fire the Turin giants into the last eight.
But it was at half-time at Allianz Stadium that the Portuguese forward highlighted his influence on his teammates.
Ronaldo had given Juventus the lead on the night with a 27th-minute header but the hosts were still behind on aggregate.
Ahead of the second-half the 34-year-old was shown in footage aired on Italian TV motivating his teammates waiting inside the tunnel to go back out onto the pitch.
Ronaldo can be seen going up to each of his fellow Juve stars, shaking their hands and providing words of advice.
Ronaldo completed the comeback in the 86th minute as he stroked home a penalty past Jan Oblak.
Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri paid tribute to his Portuguese star after the game as he praised his side’s resolve.
“We weren’t perfect, but we did do well to remain concentrated,” he said.
“There was the risk of taking a hysterical approach to the game, as the idea of the comeback had been talked about so much, but we had 95 minutes to get the job done.
“We did very well and the team deserve congratulations. “It would’ve been really strange for Ronaldo to end his Champions League season with only one goal…
He did well and the lads all contributed, including the fans providing a marvellous frame for the match.
“I think we gave a wonderful evening of football to all those passionate about the sport in Italy.”
